Laughing Gull at Sandy Point

I decided to try the Sandy Point sunrise again today, then look for some wandering gulls. The sunrise was good enough, but I didn’t have much luck with migrant gulls.

I checked out Jonas Green Park as I drove by, but didn’t see anything worth stopping for.
Quiet Waters was only a little better, but a Bald Eagle made it worth the trip.

Mallards are still the only ducks I’m seeing in the area.

Belted Kingfisher 123

I was lucky to catch this Belted Kingfisher as he flew by.

Ring Billed Gull 97

Sandy Point beach was littered with gulls, including Ring Billed Gulls.

Dark Eyed Junco at Quiet Waters

I started at Possum Point again, but a little later than usual.  After a decent sunrise, I didn’t see much at all, so I moved to Quiet Waters.

I looked in a different cove this morning, and didn’t do much better. The ducks will be here soon!Possum Point 103

Bald Eagle at Quiet Waters Park

It was a little cloudy early, so I didn’t get out ’til 7:00. I stayed in Quiet Waters all morning, and did a little exploring. Oddly, passerines are just not showing up, and the ducks are trickling in slowly.

A few ducks and an eagle made it a worthwhile morning.

Bald Eagle 433

I found this juvenile Bald Eagle near the overlook.

Bald Eagle at Possum Point

The weather was near perfect today, a little chilly but with good light and a nice sunrise.

The eagles came out early, providing good looks if not a great close up.

Cormorants are still around in good numbers, along with a few terns, gulls and ruddys.

A quick trip to Quiet Waters was a waste of time.

This was the best look I got at the Bald Eagle.

Great Blue Heron at Possum Point

It was one of those mornings when a sensible person would have stayed home. Cloudy, threatening rain and no reason to hope for better.

I decided to take a look anyway, against the odds. The odds won

No shortage of birds, but really awful light and a lousy sunrise.

Better luck tomorrow.

There were lots of Great Blue Herons in the area.

Great Blue Heron at Possum Point

I started at Possum Point for the sunrise, which was OK, but birds were in short supply.

I also stopped at Beach Road, Thomas Point and Quiet Waters without taking a single photo.

A beautiful day, bur strangely lacking in birds.

Forster’s Tern at Possum Point

It was another spectacular weather day, with good light and temps in the 70s.  Quiet Waters and Thomas Point are closed on Tuesdays, so I went to Possum Point and stuck around for about three hours.

The eagles are still there, but not getting any closer. Ruddys and Cormorants by the bucketful, and I found a few birds behind the Nature Center, but nothing spectacular.

I think this is a Forster’s Tern, and he seemed to be by himself.

Red Throated Loon at Thomas Point

I went to Possum Point for the sunrise, which was disappointing. I never did see the sun at all.

A couple of eagles entertained me,along with a large raft of Ruddy Ducks and dozens of Cormorants.

A quick stop at Jonas Green found some fighting House sparrows, a sight that was a first for me.

Thomas Point was almost deserted, except for a couple of Loons, a bird I like but don’t often see.

Piebald Deer 1

I’ve seen several Piebald Deer at Possum Point, but it’s usually too dark for a picture. This one stayed in the headlights just long enough for a shot through the windshield.
