Real Spring weather!
I mentally dithered about where to go until I got in the truck and it went to Patuxent NWR (South). A wise choice and a good variety of birds graced my lens, including a new sparrow and a Palm Warbler, first of the year for me.
I stopped briefly at Greenbury Point on the way home., then visited Truxtun Park in the afternoon. A very good day.
This Ring Necked Duck seemed to be alone.
These Tree Swallows are nesting at Patuxent NWR.
This Canada Goose is nesting on an Osprey platform.
This Canada Goose was by herself in a small pond.
This Savannah Sparrow is a first for me.
There were many Northern Rough Winged Swallows at Truxtun last year, but this is the first I’ve seen this year.
This Mourning Cloak Butterfly is also a first.
This Osprey hovered right over my head.
This Red Shouldered Hawk flew off right after I spotted him.
I’ve often seen Hermit Thrushes at the entrance to Truxtun.
It was a Wood Duck convention.
These Double Crested Cormorants were on Cash Lake.
These Palm Warblers are definite migrants.
This Swamp Sparrow is another first for me.
This Bluebird is in breeding plumage.
Three Killdeer were foraging in the marsh.
Your photos of the tree swallow are nothing short of spectacular Hugh. Gorgeous !
BTW, I think it’s awesome that whenever I google images for birds, your photos are the first ones that come up. Who ever did you bribe?
Thanks, Emily. I suspect the Google results have more to do with Google’s algorithm than my photos. Your cookies and IP address probably influence the results
I agree with Emily, the tree swallows are very lovely. You caught their color very well in the spring sunshine.
Hugh, Hi. Just got to tell you I have been laid up with a bad back (probably having surgery soon I hope). Your photos have just gotten better and better, amazing!!! I wish I was able to be out there with you (especially jealous of the wood ducks). But your photos are the best medicine for me – just brighten up my day.
Thanks,
Diane Benyus
